چکیده

The so-called texture loss is a critical parameter in the objective image quality assessment of todays cameras. Especially cameras build in mobile phones show significant loss of low contrast, fine details which are hard to describe using standard resolution measurement procedures. The combination of very small form factor and high pixel count leads to a high demand of noise reduction in the signal-processing pipeline of these cameras. Di↵erent work groups within ISO and IEEE are investigating methods to describe the texture loss with an objective method. The so-called dead leaves pattern has been used for quite a while in this context. Image Engineering presented a new intrinsic approach at the Electronic Imaging Conference 2014, which promises to solve the open issue of the original approach, which could be influenced by noise and artifacts. In this paper, we present our experience with the new approach for a large set of di↵erent imaging devices. We show, that some sharpening algorithm found in todays cameras can significantly influence the Spatial Frequency Response based on the Dead Leaves structure (SFR

Image Classification via Sparse Representation and Subspace Alignment

Image representation is a crucial problem in image processing where there exist many low-level representations of image, i.e., SIFT, HOG and so on. But there is a missing link across low-level and high-level semantic representations. In fact, traditional machine learning approaches, e.g., non-negative matrix factorization, sparse representation and principle component analysis are employed to d...

Description of texture loss using the dead leaves target: current issues and a new intrinsic approach

The computing power in modern digital imaging devices allows complex denoising algorithms. The negative influence of denoising on the reproduction of low contrast, fine details is also known as texture loss. Using the dead leaves structure is a common technique to describe the texture loss which is currently discussed as a standard method in workgroups of ISO and CPIQ. We present our experience...

Quality Assessment of Turfgrasses Using NTEP Method Compared to an Image-Based Scoring System

The current methods of turfgrass evaluations are often based on human-based assessment methods. However, eliminating subjective errors from such evaluations is often impossible. This research compared the accuracy of human-based and digital image processing-based methods for quality assessment of turfgrasses. Four turfgrass plots were evaluated using the two mentioned methods. In the human-base...

Texture-based measurement of spatial frequency response using the dead leaves target: extensions, and application to real camera systems [7537-12]

The dead leaves model was recently introduced as a method for measuring the spatial frequency response (SFR) of camera systems. The target consists of a series of overlapping opaque circles with a uniform gray level distribution and radii distributed as r. Unlike the traditional knife-edge target, the SFR derived from the dead leaves target will be penalized for systems that employ aggressive n...
